Every hand you can win in American mahjong is a line on a
card, and this is ours — 72 hands across nine
sections, written for More Mahjong. It ships inside the app, so the card in your
hand and the card on your screen are the same card.
How to read a line
Every line is 14 tiles. The colours are the rule:
blocks in one colour must all be the
same suit, and
a different colour must be a
different suit. That is what
“2 suits” beside a line means — not which suits, only
how many, and which blocks share one. Any suit may play any colour.
F — any flower or season. All eight are interchangeable.
D — the dragon belonging to that block’s suit
(green with bams, red with craks, the soap with dots).
0 — the soap, standing in as the digit zero.
N E W S — winds. They belong to no suit, so they take no colour.
C — this hand must stay concealed: you may not
claim a discard for it.
A joker can stand in only inside a block of
three or more identical tiles. It can never fill a pair, a
single, or a mixed block like 2468 or
NEWS — which is why the hands built from pairs
are the hardest ones here, and worth the most.
