Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Which styles · what it costs · offline play · does the computer cheat

Is More Mahjong free?

Yes — free to download and free to play. Some features unlock with a single one-time in-app purchase. There are no ads, no chips, no energy meters and no subscription. You are never asked to wait, watch, or top up.

Which styles of mahjong does it play?

Six, and each is a complete, separately written ruleset rather than a reskin of one engine:

Is this mahjong solitaire or a tile-matching game?

No. This is real four-player mahjong — claims, melds, scoring, settlement. If you are looking for the single-player tile-clearing puzzle, that is a different game with a confusingly similar name. Here is the difference in full.

Can I play mahjong offline?

Yes. Solo play is offline-first: no account, no login, no connection. It works on a plane. Your hand history, lifetime stats and achievements are stored on your device, not on a server.

Does it have online multiplayer?

Yes, and it is free. Quick-match with players in your chosen style, or open a private table and text the join code to your own people. Online play uses Apple Game Center and needs a connection. Every table plays for bragging rights only — there is no wagering, no betting, and nothing of monetary value to win or lose.

Does it teach you how to play?

Yes. Each style has a two-minute primer and a guided first hand. Beyond that there is Ask Tiya — an advisor who tells you what to throw and why, in the language of the style you are playing. She works at solo tables only; online, you are on your own.

Do the computer opponents cheat?

No, and this is the thing the app is built around. The wall is a seeded shuffle that knows nobody's hand. The computer players see exactly what you see — their own tiles and the table — and they are held to the same rules you are, including the Hong Kong three-faan minimum and the Riichi one-yaku minimum. Nobody is dealt a win.

What device do I need?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 17.0 or later.

Is my data collected?

Almost none. No account is required, and nothing about your play leaves your device. The app records anonymous usage events — which style, how many hands — with no personal information and no advertising identifier, and you can switch that off in Settings. Full privacy policy.
